About The Program
This course is designed with a view to integrating the components of wholeness in the care of the individual with renal problems, taking into concern changes in health patterns. This includes involving the patient’s family and community in meeting their needs.
Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, candidates will be able to:
Work with an understanding of the structure and the functions of the kidney.
Perform an accurate assessment of renal function that includes blood and urine investigations.
Identify the common disorders of the renal system and the nursing management required.
Differentiate between acute and chronic renal failure management.
Describe the investigations and procedures commonly used to diagnose a renal failure.
Describe renal replacement therapy which includes hemodialysis , peritoneal dialysis and transplantation.
Describe the therapeutic diet for renal failure, hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients.
Discuss the current issues in renal nursing such as the significant roles of community nurses and the future trends of renal nursing.
