About The Program

Critical Care Nursing is an area of specialization that deals with the care and management of patients of all ages with a focus on the utmost care of critically ill or unstable patients following extensive injury, surgery or life-threatening conditions. Every hospital has a general Intensive Care Unit and other specialized units requiring nurses with advanced intensive care knowledge.

This course will contribute to the training of nurses to manage the ever-growing patient numbers and meet the demands of care for them while striving to improve their practice and deliver at international standards of Critical Care Nursing.

Course Outcomes

This course describes the concepts of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the various ICU related units and the nature of critical care nursing. The basic and critical competencies required in critical nursing management are described.

The aim of this course is to,

  • build upon and advance the repertoire of knowledge, skills, attitudes and professional values in the promotion of competence in the nurses’ clinical practice in critical care nursing.
  • enable nurses to meet the complex needs of patients and families requiring Intensive Care
  • develop knowledge and skills to support the family unit at times of severe illness and stress.

be able to safely and competently care for critically ill patients in the critical care environment in which they are employed.
