IIHS and Sarvodaya Sign Landmark MoU to Launch the Lankan Nurses Program Nationwide
The International Institute of Health Sciences (IIHS) has entered a significant partnership with the Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement and Sarvodaya Institute of Higher Learning (SIHL) to expand access to high-quality nursing education across Sri Lanka through the launch of the Lankan Nurses Program. This landmark initiative aims to strengthen the country’s healthcare workforce by creating accessible training pathways for aspiring nurses from diverse communities.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was officially signed by Dr. Kithsiri Edirisinghe, CEO and Co-Founder of IIHS, and Dr. Vinya Ariyaratne, Honorary President of the Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement. The signing was witnessed by Ms. Stephanie Gloria Anthony, Director of Business Development at IIHS, and Ms. Anushka Shyamali Meepage, Director of SIHL.
Through this collaboration, academic delivery for the Lankan Nurses Program will be conducted at selected Sarvodaya centers located across the island. These centers will function as academic hubs, offering lectures, practical training opportunities, mentoring, and student support services. The decentralized model ensures that students—particularly those from rural and underserved areas—can pursue world-class nursing education without geographic or financial barriers.
The partnership leverages IIHS’s internationally recognized expertise in healthcare education and Sarvodaya’s extensive grassroots network to create a sustainable talent pipeline for the healthcare sector. By empowering students with the skills, knowledge, and values essential for modern nursing, the program aims to contribute meaningfully to Sri Lanka’s health system while opening pathways for global career opportunities.
This collaboration marks a major step toward strengthening the nation’s healthcare capacity and preparing the next generation of compassionate, highly skilled nursing professionals.
