IIHS is different from other colleges in Sri Lanka because they provide hands-on experience of employment. Moreover, IIHS provides young minds to engage in research even in their diploma stage. Research has been the most memorable time in IIHS, especially working in the Bioinquirer Research Conference.
Also, the group sociology projects brought out experience and helped us learn as a group, plus it also showed us to look at the problems in the world in a different way. It helped us to build steps to figuring out solutions.
The placements have been the best experiences IIHS had to offer for real-time fieldwork. Also, the work I did in the scientific committee, built on my abilities in group work, leadership, and critical thinking.
IIHS gives a safe space to everyone, including the guidance given by the staff to the students. IIHS is a place is where people help each other, motivate each other and no one is left out or ignored. I have personally seen students who used to have stage fright, turn the tables around and give excellent speeches. Furthermore, the resources given by IIHS for any type of research work or educational purposes were to the max, with guidance from the supervisors.
I would say that studying at IIHS was almost equal to right now my education at Murdoch University Perth. The only variable that brings a difference is the technology advancement, however, I do see new improvements in the IIHS network and facilities.
I am most proud of the research I conducted to develop a prototype for a waste recycling process that produces organic fertilizers. I can confidently work in any laboratory as I have had experience in handling equipment and doing basic tests. This is one of the biggest advantages I have received from IIHS.
I had to do my diploma level for 2 years, in which the credits were transferred to Murdoch University in Perth, which then covered my first year in my degree, so I started on my second year. GHC (IIHS’s sister company) has been a great help in providing the necessary documentation for a safe flight and obtaining the COE from the university. However, I am still grateful for all the lecturers who never gave up on me even when there were times I hit rock bottom.
