Nursing Informatics combines knowledge and skills from nursing science, computer science, information science and cognitive science to design and implement automated systems that support the nursing process in the delivery of healthcare services. This course will introduce the student to important informatics tools that are currently being utilized in healthcare to ensure safe and quality care. Electronic Health Records (EHR), telehealth, personal reference management software, Evidence-Based Practice (EBP), and HIPAA will be emphasized.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Analyze the effects of informatics on Nursing care.
Understand and apply theory related to computer-human interfaces, ethics, confidentiality and privacy, caring, ergonomics and nursing informatics
Apply principles of data and information documentation
Apply confidentiality principles and nursing informatics to nursing practice.
Utilize essential elements for validating nursing knowledge on the internet.
Demonstrate ability to combine informatics with nursing practice.
Analyze the role of nursing informaticians in system research, implementation, and project management.
