XR HUB Opening
Another milestone was achieved by the launch of the XR HUB at IIHS.
The complexity of the medical industry has become more challenging. The demand for committing to safe health practices has become equally vital in the COVID-affected world. Relatively the education of healthcare professionals must be facilitated with the tools and methodologies that enhance the practicality of training and accelerate learning. The students of International Institute of Health Sciences (IIHS) are driven toward facing the practical world that accepts the realism of the industry and has the audacity to handle modern techniques. Fulfilling this goal, IIHS proudly launched the Extended Reality Hub (XR Hub) on 29th July 2022 at the IIHS premises creating history in the Sri Lankan healthcare education system. The event was graced by Ms. Glenda Whiting (Head of School of Nursing – IIHS), Dr.Nihal De Silva (Co-Founder/ Dean – IIHS), Dr. Sarath Samarage (Academic Lead | Masters in Business Administration Programme, Coventry University UK and Dr. Kithsri Edirisinghe (Co-Founder/ Director Academics-IIHS). Combing the virtual and augmented reality the XR Hub creates a 3D environment of nursing practices and modules to enable the learning to happen where physical distance is not a barrier anymore. The stimulation created is very close to reality to an extent where the sense of touching a patient could be experienced. IIHS considers involving this technology as one of the initial steps of guiding its students toward a paradigm shift in the medical industry.
